  • What were you doing at 1a.m.?

I was trying to finish the laundry and was getting ready to repaint my toenails. Sara had just gotten up and said she couldn't sleep. She saw that I was on my way to the bathroom to search for the nail polish remover and thought I might help her touch up her manicure that she had gotten for the prom last week.

Yes, I am still talking about 1:00 in the morning.

Anyway, so I am sitting on the bathroom floor, rummaging through the cabinet looking for the polish remover when something moving catches my eye.......

I said to Sara, "Look, we have a mouse in the cabinet"......

now, for those who know my darling oldest child, they know that she is not one given to much physical exertion and is certainly not known for sudden movement.....ever. Well, today she would have impressed many with her sudden change in personality.

So I get up and track down Sara and make sure she gets the camera on her way back to the bathroom. Being the slightly odd mom that I am, I was a bit sad that the other kids were sleeping and would miss out on this little excitement so I was thinking pictures were in order. That and the next time Ben is working another outage and gone 6 days a week, 12 hours a day........midnight shift for 5 weeks in a row, I will have something to prove all the hardships the girls and I endure while he is gone.

OK,  back to the mouse.......I was really trying to figure out what to do about this little problem. I wanted go to sleep at some point tonight/this morning and knew that would not be possible unless I found some way to catch our little friend. So, along with the camera I told Sara to get, I remembered the box that was sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to mail a gift to my Dad.....

I was thinking this was the answer.....and before you all start snickering.........

    it worked! lol!

It took a little convincing but the little thing crawled right into the box,

    almost back out of it,

(I've really got to give Sara a lot of credit for the above picture, She managed to get one of both of my feet on the floor, a real accomplishment!  )

and now he is safely confined, awaiting the return of my husband who will be inheriting this little surprise when he gets home in a few hours.

  • Now she's three.................

It doesn't seem possible that my little Natalie has turned three years old. It seems like only yesterday that we got "the call" that there was a baby for us and then we had to wait 3 more days before we could pick her up!

I still feel the same excitement in my heart just thinking of the day we met her........and now she is three.
    Three......

Here she is in the dress that Sara made for her....notice the " 3" ice cream cones?

All week, while she was waiting for her party, everywhere we went whether we were buying groceries or running errands she told everyone, everywhere "it's for my happy birthday". Whatever she was referring to at the moment, that was her line.

And this morning even though the party is over and (most of) the streamers and balloons are thrown away I still heard her walking through the family room singing "we're havin' a party......we're havin' a party". Gotta love that personality.

I have always been amazed at how God builds families. During the many, long years filled with miscarriages and then, what seemed to be the even longer years of my "paper pregnancy" (my description of the time we waited, waited and waited after all the adoption paperwork was completed and we waited for our baby) I questioned God, argued my case, begged and pleaded for more babies, never understanding He had this precious child in His plan for our family. He knew.... but I didn't.... and I had to wait on Him.

    Hard......really hard.

But, He is never wrong and does see the whole picture where we can only see the moment at hand. He knew what we needed and blessed us far beyond what I ever could have hoped for.

  • So, I missed the entire month of March......

and my blog sat in sad silence.

    Sad, Sad, Sad.........

I have no idea what is going on with my life. We have been so busy since we moved... and then moved again.

    It's been so chaotic.

Fortunately we are nearing the end of our renovations on the house that we bought. And, if I survive the month of April, we will be finished with our homeschool co-op classes, Sara's prom will be over and so will her play rehearsals. Oh, and Ben will be finished with his outage at work and will no longer be working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day......on midnight shift. Then, I am trying to convince myself, the chaos will end.

But, in an effort to make several of my friends happy who have complained commented that either I have not posted enough pictures, or that the pictures I have posted are not " that lovely" (like a spider bite and swollen eye are not good shots?)   I am posting pictures of a recent family "we gotta do more than work on this house" day. Yes, we managed to sneak away and do nothing more than have a lot of fun!

We had a beautiful sunny day......

the water was cold (so they tell me)....

    IMG_6330

but there was always the sand to play in......

I missed the shot of her next move, but

I think you get the idea!

  • What kind of bite could this be?

One of my daughters has this on her knee.......

    IMG_6053

The same daughter woke up looking like this a few weeks ago......

    IMG_5333

The above was poison ivy, which managed to swell so badly that she could not open her eye for 2 days. This has completely healed so I suppose the poor child was just about due a new injury.

Really, there's never a dull moment here.....

Anyway, back to her current condition......what she has described to me is that when she put her pants on this morning she noticed a very intense stinging that has, throughout the day gotten very painful. It is now hard for her to bend her knee. When she showed it to me this afternoon it was red and hot to the touch.

    IMG_6030

I know the pictures are not very clear but it is a large red outer circle around a lighter white inner circle with yet another red circle around what appears to be a bite. The inner area is very swollen and warm. Ben used tweezers to pull out what might have been a stinger or something.....

    I'm thinking spider bite......

    Thoughts?

  • You know it's going to be one of those days when....

you tell the kids to go get dressed for a quick trip to town and one of them comes out looking like this!

    IMG_5337

I've always thought Wal Mart deserved better than what we had been giving it.

For the long overdue update....we have moved. Fifth home in 30 months. I am trying to get back into the routine of life. I would say normal life but I've finally accepted it, normal is not even an option.

Will be catching up on things around here in the coming days. Hopefully.
